Looking for an events space to hire in Birmingham? Here are a selection of bars, restaurants and other event spaces worth checking out. It's worth mentioning that there is some overlap here.
The bars can provide food for events, and some of the larger hotels might have smaller rooms for more intimate events.
Firstly though, where is this advice coming from?
Well, I've performed at all of these venues previously as a close up magician in Birmingham. Throughout the article, I'll include a short summary of my experience with each venue, and there's more about me at the bottom of this article. Birmingham Bars to Hire for Events
The Botanist

The Plant Rooms are the private rooms available to hire at The Botanist. They are located in the basement and offer an exclusive space for your event, with your own bar where you could order one of their craft ales or expertly made cocktails. The space would be perfect for a small private party, corporate networking event or product launch party. The private rooms continue the unique 18th century styling and modern vibe of this place. It's definitely worth checking out.
When I performed here: I've performed at this venue a few times. The first time, was in the main restaurant for a group of six staff at a celebration dinner, where I provided two sessions of 25 minutes of magic. The second time, was for a slightly product launch event in The Plant Rooms, where I performed walkaround close up magic.

Available to hire in multiple formats including just the rear bar all the way up to the whole venue, this is an incredibly fun venue to host an event in. With it's loud pink neon signs, I think this place would be perfect for a fun birthday bash, a hen party or even a corporate event for the right company. Just look at it! Girl power! I think you know whether this venue is for you or not.
I've performed close up magic here for a hen party, which is not the type of event I perform at often but they always go down well. The one I was part of was incredibly fun!
The Bond, Birmingham

At the time of writing this is a new space that is due to open shortly. By day it's a creative content hub space but by night there are multiple spaces available to hire for events. With it's stunning Victorian architectural features, and it's location in trendy Digbeth this could be the perfect events space to hire for a corporate event such as a summer party or company anniversary.
I previously performed here before it was renovated, providing walkaround close up magic for the 15th anniversary / birthday party of a Birmingham based company. What I find incredible, is that I also performed at their 10th birthday bash. They were so impressed that we kept in touch and I have performed for them several times over the years.
The Sun on the Hill, Birmingham

It's easy to see why this venue call themselves your local pub in the city centre. It's a wonderful friendly atmosphere with quality food cooked on the premises and a range of popular beers, wines and spirits. Their mezzanine area is available to hire for events for up to 60 people, so it's ideal for private parties such as milestone birthdays, wedding anniversaries, retirement parties, or maybe you have some other celebration. Check it out!
I performed here for a 30th birthday party, providing first close up magic as I mixed with the guests, and then I performed performance to the whole group as a grand finale. That's a great addition as brings the group together, allows me to highlight the VIP guests (in this case the birthday guest) and adds even more wow factor to your event.

An uber cool hang out in Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter has a variety of food and drinks options, plus space to hold a range of events. As well as private parties and corporate events they also host weddings, so if you're looking for a trendy spot to meet friends and invited guests then check out this cool, relaxed venue.
I have performed at this venue for a 40th birthday party, where I started the night by welcoming everyone with a performance to the whole group. This wasn't so much a show, but one spectacular trick to kick things off. I then invited the birthday guy up who wanted to perform a magic trick, which he did flawlessly and to great applause! Finally, I mixed with guests sharing my unique walkaround close up magic and mind reading with everyone.

Birmingham Retaurants to Hire for Events

I've put the best first. This exclusive hire events venue is fantastic. What I love most about it is, it is a blank space. This flexibility is great as it means with just a bit of decoration it can be used for a wide range of events, from milestone birthdays, Christenings, weddings and corporate events. Their main space is perfect for up to 60 guest seated, or up to 80 guests standing, and they have a variety of food options. For smaller events, you could instead hire part of the bar area. When I visited there, I found the team incredibly helpful and I'm sure that they would love to hear from you about the event you are planning. Definitely put this venue on your list of events venues to consider.
I performed here first for a small wedding of about 50 guests. I found staff friendly and welcoming which helped to relax me before my performance which was made up of walkaround close up magic followed by a short ten minute performance to the whole group. My grand finale. The wedding couple and guests loved it and I was invited back a few months later for a birthday party at the same venue.
Varanasi, Birmingham

This restaurant situated on Birmingham's popular Broad Street is the largest Indian restaurant in Birmingham, and caters to a wide range of events. They are a fantastic choice for corporate events such as presentations, team gatherings or celebrations. They are also a great choice as a place to meet some of your clients away from the office. They also have a private dining room, so if you want to receive a more personalised level of service and eat away from the main restaurant that is an option too.
Hiring a private dining room for your event is a great idea, and a magician to entertain between the courses is a fantastic way to make sure your guests is memorable for all the right reasons. I have developed an exclusive performance for events in a private dining room. It's a special show focused on you and your guests. I presented here, to a client and their friends who were celebrating a milestone birthday.

This is one of the largest restaurants in Birmingham and people love its all you can eat buffet. Here's my recommendation though, go downstairs. On the lower floor, you pay a little more but I think the quality improves, and I don't know about you but I don't often want to eat everything. Even further downstairs, in the basement are some private hire rooms. They are great for events because you get your own space, plus a server who waits on you. They have a range of different room sizes, and a variety of fun themes, including karaoke rooms! There's something for everyone, but I would say this would be great for private parties such as birthday parties and hen / stag nights.
I was actually hired by the venue to perform here for a week during Chinese New Year in 2020. It was fantastic as I managed to meet lots of people who were out enjoying themselves in Birmingham. At the same time I met people who had hired the private dining rooms for their event. I even booked another show a few months later from someone who I met in the restaurant.

This restaurant is fabulous. It's located on the top floor of The Cube building, which is close to Broad Street so if you still want to party after your meal, you are close to the action. You get a skyline view of the city and with Marco Pierre White's name behind it, you know the food is going to be fantastic! If you looking to hire a space for 20 to 100 guests then this is one to check out.
I performed close up magic here for a corporate Christmas party of about 40 people. I visited each table wowing them with incredible sleight of hand magic and impossible mind reading whilst at the same time adding in lots of comedy in order to make sure everyone was having a great time. And of course, wishing everyone a Happy Christmas!

This is a contemporary restaurant with excellent high quality food, that would be perfect for a night out with your partner or friends and family. It perhaps falls more on the foodie side than the events side, but could be worth investigating for Christmas parties, or corporate events such as client meetings or to staff celebrations.
I performed here for a staff reward dinner, entertaining a small group of eight guests who had recently secured an important contract. As such they were celebrating as a team and thought close up magic would add some fun to the proceedings. I was happy to oblige and entertained everyone with incredible magic and conversational comedy.

Birmingham Events Spaces to Hire
Botanical Gardens, Birmingham

Birmingham Botanical Gardens offers three striking event spaces perfect for weddings, corporate events or private parties. There is the Loudon Suite for groups of about 60 guests, the Terrace Suite for about 200 guests, and the Garden Suite for about 400 to 500 guest. For even larger events, the Terrace and Garden Suite can be combined to give even more space. All of the event spaces can be adapted to either a sit down meal, a cocktail reception style, or a theatre style. And, of course, there are the gardens to enjoy too. There are a range of food and drinks options too, so whether it's light refreshments or banquet, there will be something here for you. This is an events space well worth contacting about your event.
I was hired to perform at Birmingham Botanical Gardens for a Christmas party. That's another type of event this space is perfect for. I provided walkaround close up magic as guests arrived and then table to table magic during the courses of the meal. There was about 150 guests at the event, but I remember that one table stood out particularly. They really enjoy my magic and comedy, 'got' every joke / line, and invited me back to their table later in the night for an encore.
Hippodrome Theatre, Birmingham

This could be your ideal event venue for large or small events. Yes, you can even hire the whole theatre auditorium, which I think would be an amazing way to give your awards night the wow factor. Of course, they have all of the theatrical magic and technology to make sure your visions come to life. For smaller events, there are a number of meeting rooms available, or the theatre foyer and other rooms for private parties and celebrations.
I performed here for a corporate networking event. My role was to mix with guests, break the ice and help to introduce people to each other. My close up magic is perfect for this, and the evening went very well.
The Electric Cinema, Birmingham

Here's another venue perfect for an awards night or training conference. The Electric Cinema is the oldest cinema in the UK and would be perfect for a unique corporate event or even a private event for a film loving person or couple.
I performed close up magic here for a wedding. As it was themed around the movies, I also created a custom routine based around some of the couples favourite films.

While this venue does have more of a business feel to it, it offers a variety of function rooms and events spaces for a range of corporate events. Not only that, but the impressive 39 floor offer a striking view of the Birmingham skyline. If you're looking for a stylish, modern space for meetings, product launches, networking events or celebrations then this might be the perfect venue for you.
I was invited here to perform close up magic for the 10th anniversary of a Birmingham company. My magic is a great choice for events like this as it offers a chance for staff and guests to celebrate together and keep the conversation away from talking only about work.
The Banqueting Suite, Birmingham

Right in the heart of Birmingham, the Banqueting Suite is a unique and flexible events venue for weddings and corporate events. Situated inside the Council House, a beautiful Grade II* listed building, it boasts some of the city's most talked about design. So if you are looking for a venue with elegance and style, then this is a venue to strongly consider. In fact, since its opening, the Council House has received and welcomed members of the Royal family and world leaders, and you could be next.
I have performed here on three occasions, each time for a wedding, with my close up magic. At one wedding I performed table magic during the wedding breakfast, at the other two I performed during the turnover period, entertaining guests during the early evening.
