I’m based in Staffordshire and regularly perform across Birmingham, Nottingham, Manchester, and London. As one of the leading close up magicians in the UK, I frequently travel across the whole country, and even have a few international clients who pay a bit extra for travel but appreciate the security of getting a quality performer. In short, distance is never a problem. If you’re planning a standout party, I’m happy to discuss making the trip to join you.
Hiring me for close up magic at a party usually falls within the £400 to £800 range, depending on the date, time, location and which package you choose. If you add on a show then I charge a bit more too. But rather than a vague answer, you can request a no obligation quote here and I’ll reply as soon as possible.
It’s about certainty. I’ve performed at thousands of events, meaning I can read any group and adapt instantly. You’re not just paying for someone to come and do a few magic tricks, you’re ensuring your guests are in expert hands. Many cheaper performers rely on off-the-shelf routines and scripts that can feel dated in 2026. Over the past 20 years, I’ve discovered that by focusing on the people rather than just the tricks, every guest feels involved and the laughter is real. The general rule of thumb is that a close up magician can entertain ~50 guests per hour. I usually recommend adding a bit of extra time so that I can spend time with your guests instead of a ‘quick hello’. And if your celebration is larger than 150 guests, I can co-ordinate additional professional magicians to work alongside me. I’m well connected in the magic industry and know some quality performers. Bonus: I’ll do all the organising, and logistics with them, so that you get maximum entertainment, zero stress.
The great thing about close up magic is that it can fit int to almost any part of the event, but the best times are the welcome period as guests arrive, between the courses of a meal. Because my performance is built on conversation and comedy, I recommend scheduling it for the first half of the event. It’s the perfect way to build energy and connection before the music takes over.
If it is low background music, yes. My clients book me because of the improvised, conversational style that is unique to me. But if people can’t hear me, they can’t hear the comedy, or interactions. I recommend mix and mingle magic during the start of the party, as guests arrive. Once the DJ cranks up the volume and the dancefloor fills, the interactive, conversational nature of my performance is lost.
Close up magic takes place in a shared performance space. I mix and mingle with you, or perform table side during a meal. A parlour show, or sometimes called stand up magic is a theatre-style performance but for a small group (usually under 50 people). It’s perfect for smaller celebrations parties where you want a shared, high-impact highlight for the event.
