My 3 favourite venues to perform at in Staffordshire

As a close up magician in Staffordshire I've performed across the county at many venues. I've spoken elsewhere on the site about some of the top venues available to hire:

But here are my top three favourite places to perform at. I've performed at each of them multiple times, and always had a great welcome from guests and staff. Here we go.

The Mill Restaurant, Stone

1 Mill Street, Stone, Staffordshire ST15 8BA
https://www.themillrestaurante.org.uk/

This is where it all began for me. That's right, I started performing magic professionally in 2010 at The Mill Restaurant during the Christmas parties held there. I provided close up magic table to table as a great way to welcome guests and provide entertainment while they waited for their food. Oh, and of course wish everyone a Merry Christmas.

Later I was hired to perform walkaround entertainment at a wedding at the restaurant. It's a fantastic wedding venue, perfect for a wedding of up to 120 guests. The great thing is that, as a family run restaurant the staff really make you feel welcome and bring you into the family. The food is, of course, fantastic and the hospitality is second to none! Definitely one worth checking out if you are getting married. And if you are looking for a fantastic way to bring your celebration to life, then the restaurant is not too far from me, and I know the place well. I would love to help you create some incredible memories through my engaging magic and comedy.

As well as all of the above, The Mill is also a fantastic place to go for a meal. You might know this already but Stone is a bit of a foody town. Every year, in July, they hold Staffordshire's top food and drink festival. Outside of those times, if you're looking for something delicious to eat, then you must try the paellas on offer at The Mill. Perhaps you are celebrating an anniversary, a retirement or a milestone birthday. Perhaps you just fancy a night out. Whatever it is, the beautiful rustic setting, the delicious food and drink, and the welcoming staff, make this a top restaurant in Staffordshire to visit.

George Hotel, Lichfield

12-14 Bird Street, Lichfield, Staffordshire WS13 6PR
https://www.thegeorgelichfield.co.uk/

Would you believe it but I've actually performed here both as a close up magician and as a stage magician? As a stage magician, I performed upstairs in The Garrick Suite. The organisers had set out the stage in between the two columns, with the audience seated on all four sides. It was a variety night with a few different performers. It was a while back so I can't remember all the details about everything, but I do remember that it went fairly well. I think everyone had a good time.

As a magician, I performed here at a family party in The Charter Room. This event wasn't for any particular celebration, but simply a family get together post-lockdown. You might be surprised but non specific events are more common than you might think. I perform at several of them throughout the year. I performed a short show for everyone followed by walkaround close up magic.

The George Hotel is an elegant hotel with a friendly touch. It's located within the centre of Lichfield, not too far from where I am based. With a variety of meeting rooms available to hire, plus a restaurant and a bar, it's perfect for a wide range of events. As well as the two types of events mentioned, it's also perfect for weddings, corporate events and private parties. It's also a nice place for a meal if you find yourself in Lichfield.

Staffordshire County Showground, Stafford

Weston Rd, Stafford, Staffordshire ST18 0BD
https://www.staffscountyshowground.co.uk/

Well, why wouldn't I love performing here. Not only is it local to where I live, it's also the County Showground. There are numerous events on throughout the year and I've performed here several times. I must admit that there are many agricultural events that take place here that probably don't suit a magician, however there are also many functions that take place in the hospitality suites. That's where I've performed. I have provided both close up magic and stage magic in The Ingestre Suite.

The first few occasion were for a local charity and at that time as I was just starting out I performed completely free for them. Later as I gained more experience and started to get more professional bookings, it became impossible to give up a Saturday night as that would have meant turning away paid work. They still wanted to work with me, and so we agreed on a slightly reduced rate that we were both happy with. One of those events was for a Masquerade Ball, and there's an image of that below. I think that was in around 2012 or 2013. I've performed at Staffordshire County Showground several times since for both charity events and private functions.

Unless you run very large events like car meets, antiques fairs, agricultural fairs or very large corporate events, then it's unlikely you would hire this venue yourself, but I do recommend that you have a look at what events they have coming up. I used to own a classic car and would visit each year to display my vehicle and view others. There is a lot going on, not least of which is the Staffordshire County Show, which is held each year at the end of May / June.
