Professional Magician for Weddings, Corporate Events & Parties
I'm Ed, and I’m a professional close up magician for hire in Shrewsbury and Shropshire. And I'm ready to bring your event to life! Shrewsbury is only about a 45-minute drive from my home, and I perform there often. I also have ties to the town and I am recommended by many venues within the region including Rowton Castle.
I also love performing here because unlike a major city, I can easily find somewhere to park. That's might seem like it is only a benefit to me, but it does help me to be more relaxed for your event.
Talking of which, I specialise in close up magic which means that I'm perfect to hire for weddings, anniversaries, parties, corporate events and Christmas celebrations.
So if you’re holding an event in Shrewsbury, or nearby and are looking to add a touch of magic, comedy and conversation then get in touch today and let’s have a chat about what would work best for you.
As I mentioned, I’ve performed at all sorts of events. There are far too many to name individually but here are just some of the events within the Shrewsbury and Shropshire area that stand out to me.
Shrewsbury Wedding Magician
Since 2011, I’ve been performing my incredible close up magic at weddings at Rowton Castle. It’s a beautiful wedding venue and one that I always enjoy returning to. The staff are very welcoming both to the guests and to myself and other entertainers. This friendliness is something I, of course, reflect in my performances. And as I have built up a good relationship with the staff there, they have recommended couples to me on many occasions and there was no problem with me filming at one of the weddings I was hired for. You can see the results of that below, and the best thing is that it gives you a great idea of how I could fit into your event whether it’s at Rowton Castle or elsewhere.
A friendly, interactive gent who oozed confidence and impressed even the most skeptical of our guests. Ed brought the party to life!

And let’s not forget, it’s a castle. Who doesn’t want to get married in a castle?
Corporate Events Entertainment
During September 2018, I was asked to provide close up magic to welcome guests as they got their arrival drink, followed by table to table magic during dinner. This was to celebrate the 25th anniversary of a company, and their success throughout the year. It was held at The Lord Hill Hotel, Abbey Foregate and after the event the organise sent me this feedback. I guess that proves I must be doing something right!
Ed was amazing! He was very confident and took charge of meeting and interacting with everyone. I would definitely recommend him to others who are looking for a genuine magician!

Shropshire Hills Magic
I love performing at weddings. And magic fits in perfectly! We all know that weddings can be a long day. Well, entertainment is the key to helping people relax and enjoy the day with their friends. You might have the most beautiful setting and the highest quality food, but if people are bored then the day will fall flat. That’s where I come in, and it’s the reason why guests had such a great time in the summer of 2017. I performed in the gardens of Walcott Hall, Ledbury, in the Shropshire Hills, and after the event, the client sent me these fabulous photos which show just how I interact with people. If you’re interested in hiring a close up magician for your wedding then get in touch and let’s have a conversation about how I can help your wedding be the talking point of the year.
Recently booked Ed at our wedding to entertain our guests during our drinks reception. He was fantastic with guests of all ages. He also took the time to ensure we saw a trick at the end. We’ve got no idea how he does it! Would highly recommend.

Shropshire Party Magician
It’s not just within Shrewsbury that I perform as a magician. I also cover events across Shropshire. In March 2018, I performed at Rosehill Manor, Market Drayton for 60th birthday party. There were only 20 guests so I spent some time mixing with the guests, sharing some close up magic and getting to know them and then while they enjoyed dinner I took a break and set my show up for the second half. There I provided a performance to the whole group to round off the evening. I call this my friends and family show and that’s exactly what it was. It’s the perfect after-dinner entertainment.
Christmas Party Entertainment Shrewsbury
I’ve performed a few events at The Lion Hotel, Wyle Cop in the centre of Shrewsbury. The one that stands out to me was a Corporate Christmas Party in December 2017. I started the afternoon providing close up magic to greet and welcome guests to the event. I was then invited to join them for dinner. It’s not necessary to feed me at events, but it’s always greatly appreciated. It also meant that I could talk further with the guests on my table. As I’m sure you can imagine they had lots of questions about the life of a magician is like. After dinner, I provided part of my cabaret show, and the client sent these photos to me after the event.
And then after the event, I shot off to entertain at another Christmas event elsewhere in Shropshire.
As I perform as a magician at a lot of events in Shrewsbury, I am often contacted by people on the border with Wales, (or the border with England, depending on how you look at it). One such occasion was in December 2016, when I performed at a private residence in Llanmynech. I forget whether this event fell in England or Wales, but either way, it was very close. I provided my friends and family show for just 12 guests. This show is actually really simple to understand, it’s two sessions of 25 minutes performed in the comfort of your own home, and it includes close up magic, mind reading and a few larger pieces of magic too. I specifically remember the comment that one guest made. At the end of one routine, she turned to the host and said, “He's really great! Where did you find him!?” What a compliment!
Themed Birthday Entertainment
This is another event that will be difficult for me to forget! It was at the Albright Hussey Manor Hotel, Ellesmere Road in February 2016, and bizarrely I met another magician who was performing there the same day for a wedding. I, however, was providing close up magic and a group performance stand up show for a birthday party. There were a mix of ages there and they had all got involved with the Alice in Wonderland theme, which was um… interesting. Yes, I did magic to the Mat Hatter and the March Hare! CLEAN CUPS! After the event, the client sent me this glowing review that I like to read every now and again to remind myself exactly why I do what I do.
The way you were able to entertain adults, children, individually or as one whole group was just brilliant, and we were all amazed that we couldn’t figure it out. Everyone has said it's a party they will talk about for years to come!

Military Magician Shrewsbury & Shropshire
In December 2016, I performed at RAF Shawbury, just north of Shrewsbury. This was a Black Tie Ball for 130 guests, and one of the moments I remember was when we all got booted out of the venue into the December air, because the fire alarm went off. I think someone burnt the toast! Other than though it was a great night and I enjoyed sharing my close up magic table to table, getting heckled really badly at one table but taking it in the fun it was intended, and do you know what? I’ve been doing this for a long time now, so if you try to heckle me then just know that I can give it back! As I said, it was all good fun though and I was pleased to be a part of helping the night to be a success.
Thank you for all of your help in organising the event and for your excellent magic on the night. If anyone requires entertainment for their event I will pass your name across with my highest recommendation.

The One Spectator I’ll Never Ever Forget
A friend asked me a difficult question recently. I was talking about how I had written about some of the shows that stuck on to me, and if you take a look at some of my other location pages, you’ll see I’ve followed a similar pattern there. I really have performed a lot of magic right across the UK. But the question he asked was different. Is there one single person that has stood out from all of the people I’ve met? There is, and I love this story. It happened in December 2015 at the Peach Tree Restaurant, 18-21, Abbey Foregate, Shrewsbury. The event was a party for a charitable organisation and I was asked to perform close up magic table to table during their Christmas party lunch and then finish with a short show to the whole group.
Everything went well that afternoon until I invited a young woman to help with one of the routines. She kept turning away and covering her face and I thought she might have been a little nervous about helping out. I asked her if she was ok, and she said, “Yes, you just make me laugh so much!” When I spoke to her afterwards she told me that we just had exactly the same sense of humour. Well, this is music to my ears. Often people say my magic is impressive or that they don’t know how it works, but when someone connects with me and my personality well that’s the ultimate compliment. After all (and sorry if this is cheesy, but it’s true), people won’t remember what you said or did, but they will remember how you made them feel!

Event Hosting Shrewsbury with a Celebrity
In 2014, I was asked to host an event close to Shrewsbury. Most of my hosting work is for corporate events but this was a wedding anniversary with a rather special guest. I’m not usually one to drop names, but I performed stand up magic to the whole group, told some jokes on the microphone and then dropped hints throughout the night about who the special guests might be. I think there was some expectation that there was going to be something special that evening. I then introduced Jonathon Ansell, he of the band G4 (second in X Factor 2004). He was a great singer, as you might expect, but also very humble and it was great to meet him and, of course, all of the guests attending that evening.
Events Entertainment Shrewsbury
Another excellent wedding and party venue in Shrewsbury that I can recommend is Albrighton Hall. I have performed there several times both for private parties, private dining events and for weddings. Often I am performing close up magic, but my after-dinner cabaret show would also be suitable depending on the type of celebration you are holding. If you’re holding an event here or elsewhere in Shrewsbury, you owe it to yourself to get a quote just to see how you can add unforgettable entertainment to your day.
Shropshire Party Magic
I performed north of Shrewsbury in Whitchurch during June 2013 when I performed at an event at Alderford Lake in Whitchurch. This was a birthday celebration. I wasn’t told how old the birthday woman was, but that’s ok. I presume it was a milestone birthday as there were plenty of guests there for me to meet and entertain. And that I did. I provided walkaround close up magic for a couple of hours as guests ate, drank and chatted. It was wonderful to add to the atmosphere of the party and to share some extra special magic with the party guest of honour.
Wedding Entertainment in Shrewsbury
During 2013 I performed at St Nicholas Bar & Grill on Castle Street. This is right in the city centre. I was there to provide close up magic for a wedding and I performed table to table during the wedding breakfast itself. This worked well at this event and I ensured that I got round to meet every guest. It was a fun afternoon in an interesting venue that I hadn’t visited previously, and I was happy to contribute to making the happy couple’s day a huge success.
Weddings at Rowton Castle
I mentioned Rowton Castle in the first post on this page. The first wedding that I performed there was in 2011. Wow, it seems so long ago! I booked this event by going into a restaurant in Shrewsbury. I was hoping we might be able to work together as magic works excellent as a recurring evening in restaurants and bars. As well as discussing that opportunity with the manager, they were also looking to hire a magician for their wedding. I was happy to hear what they were looking for, explain what I provided and as the two matched up, I was hired for the job. I received this review shortly after the wedding.
A great treat for yourself and guests, especially if you have time before or after the meal before the evening starts. Ed’s magic was a great way to keep guests entertained and to get people together chatting.

Performance advice – John asked me this through a website where I was signed up to answer questions. I thought this one was particularly insightful as it isn’t just asking, “what are the secrets of magic?” / “how do you do it?” but rather about a specific issue that many magicians struggle with. Fortunately, I have some good advice for him, and others. The question was: How do you speak so smoothly during a performance? I cant seem to do both the trick and the talking at the same time.
Event Planning – This question actually came from a client who asked me for some advice about her birthday party. It was one of those special “BIG” milestone birthdays. I haven’t given her name, but I won’t say the age either! I thought it would be useful if I share the answer with everyone.
Entertainment for Christmas Events
As the summer arrives, Christmas is probably the last thing on your mind, but it will creep up sooner than you think and if you’re looking to hold a celebration this year then this is a question that many of you might be asking:
Is it ever too early to book a magician or other entertiainment for my Christmas party?
Returning to Live Events – Here’s a question that a friend asked me recently, that I thought you might all like an update on. So here’s the question – Have events picked up again, post lockdown?
Sleight of Hand! I think Dan is trying to sneakily ask about the secrets of magic with this question. That’s OK, I’ll give you a little clue. He asks:
What exactly is sleight of hand?
Magic is great because of the memories that are formed when people are a part of something special! That's why I start with the impossible but don't stop until you have a story to tell and memory to treasure.
Ed regularly performs magic for weddings, anniversaries, parties and corporate events in Birmingham, Nottingham, Staffordshire, and Shropshire. But you can hire him to perform anywhere in the UK. In fact, it's recommended that you do!
