Hire a Close Hand Magician
When it comes to adding excitement to any event, a "close hand" magician can make a big difference. Though you might be more familiar with the term "close up magic," the term "close hand magic" is also used interchangeably by some. But what exactly is close hand magic, and why should you consider hiring a close hand magician for your next event?
Close hand magic, like close-up magic, involves magic tricks performed right in front of the audience, often with the magician mingling among the guests. Just to confuse things further, we sometimes call this walkaround magic. Rest assured, these are all names for the same thing.
The magic happens just a few feet, sometimes even inches, away from the spectators, allowing everyone a perfect view of the illusions. The magic often involves everyday objects carried with the magician or borrowed from the guests. This can include coins, paper money, rings, pens and playing cards (but not just card tricks), and also mind reading feats!
But this is about more than just tricks. As the performance space is shared, the best close hand magic performers are able to interact with guests, making them laugh with spur of the moment quips and engaging conversation.
This is a special form of entertainment that is perfect for breaking the ice, sparking conversations among guests, and creating fabulous memories.
Why should you hire a close hand magician?
Well, here's just a few key reasons:
Engaging and Interactive: Close hand magic provides an interactive experience for guests. They are right there in the action and can participate in the tricks, creating an engaging and memorable experience. I know that with my performance, the interaction is always provided in a fun, unpressured way. It's conversational, so often people want to be involved where they might not with other more 'show off-y' performers.
Ed is not pushy or imposing! He has an exceptional talent for gauging the audience and adds audience participation without making people feel uncomfortable.

Breaks the Ice: Every close hand magician says this, but it's because it's true. Magic is a universal language that can break down barriers and spark conversations, making it a perfect ice-breaker at networking events, cocktail hour, corporate functions or private parties.
Ed’s friendly and outgoing manner got everyone interacting and made the first part of the party fly by. I was not the only one to comment, how on earth did he do that!?
Shelly Spooner, EffecTech, Birmingham
Adaptable: Close hand magicians can adapt to a range of environments. Whether it's a corporate function, a wedding, or a private party, they can mingle with guests and perform impromptu magic, adding a dynamic element to your event. As well as walkaround magic as I've described already, another option is table to table magic where the magician performs at each table during the course of a meal. The great thing is that close hand magic is adaptable enough to fit into a wide range of settings and scenarios, so I'll work with you to find the best fit for your event.
Funny, captivating, affable and absolutely fantastic at mesmerising people with his skills. I was absolutely delighted with everything Ed did for our guests.

Where do you perform close hand magic?
I'm based in the Midlands, which conveniently is the perfect place to be able to cover a big chunk of the UK. It's true that most of my work is within the nearest big city to me: Birmingham.
However, I often perform nearby in Warwickshire, Northampton, Nottingham, Shrewsbury and sometimes further afield in places like Manchester and Liverpool.
It's always worth getting in touch because even if I can't help I'm well connected to the magic industry and can almost always recommend someone.
